NaNoWriMo 2013: Day 2

To keep myself accountable, I’m going to try very hard to post at least my daily word count here at the end of each day.  Now I know this isn’t the end of Day 2, but the list of things I have to do today is long enough that it’s unlikely I’ll be able to update before midnight unless I do it now (like I am).

The good news?  I’ve decided on a novel to work on!  Yup, I’ve chosen the post-apocalyptic one for reasons known only to my subconscious.  I sat down last night, stared for about an hour at my new Scrivener page, and eventually stuff just started coming out (after several false starts).  So, post-apocalyptic/fantasy (I think horror is implied in a post-apocalypse, don’t you?) is moving forward.  I think I have about two dozen races, even more different species, and about TWO complete characters carved out.  I’m pretty sure I can get away with this though because of the way in which I plan to tell this story.  I mean, I have an idea in my head, but let’s face it – it’s going to change a lot as I go along and it’ll need a LOT of editing when I’m finished writing it.  NaNoWriMo gets you to write it down, but writing 50 thousand words in 30 days isn’t exactly a good way to create quality.  We all need a good editor when we’re finished, or at least most of us do… I certainly will.

Anyhow, before I go, I just want to remind everyone that if you want your name in my post-apocalyptic story, you can make a donation to my fund-raising page for the Young Writer’s Program (care of the Office of Letters and Light) hereMore details can be found in this entry.

Good luck to those participating in the adventure that is novel-writing, whether you’re doing NaNoWriMo with us this year or not.  Thanks for reading, and have a lovely day!
