Accountability: Week Five

(Ordinarily, I go for a midnight run – sometimes it’s a bit before midnight and sometimes a bit after, just depends on the day’s plans and the next day’s wake-up time.  Around midnight, I might see maybe half a dozen cars on the road, at most, and maybe 2 or 3 people out and about as they get home for the night – ordinarily.

Tonight I encountered triple that number, at least.

Most notably, as I began my warm-up walk there were approximately three drunk young men calling after me from the front of their house.  “Where are you going in such a hurry?’ and a bunch of other things I couldn’t clearly understand over the distance, the Zombies Run! Doc, and my running tunes.

Then halfway into my training run, the Doc says, “Alright, Runner 5, there are no more zoms in the area.  You’re clear.”  At that exact moment, I ran past a house on the porch of which a number of drunk individuals were laughing and being raucous, one of the guys leaning over the railing and cat-calling me.  I couldn’t help, but put my hand to my ear, and say aloud, quite out of breath, “You missed a few, Doc, but I can outrun them.”

And I did.  When I turned around to return home, the streets were clear.)

Accountability: Week Five

(Most notably this week: I started a new job and have gotten no more than 5 to 6 hours of sleep the past several nights as a result of early morning training days so I’m genuinely surprised I pulled off this run at all, let alone that I managed to keep going through nearly all of the training runs, only pulling up short on the last one.

I can already feel it, though.  Getting into the mid-4km range is KILLING my knees and shins.  Probably that’s a good thing?  Let’s see if I can still manage my second run the night after next, shall we?)

Accountability: Week Three

(I hit another landmark event today:  Tonight I went for my fourth run in one week.  That exceeds my goal of three 5K training runs per week, and I even improved on my speed, which is awesome.

Unfortunately, this is day four without writing.  I’ve hit a bit of a wall, and I think it’s a wall built on depression-lies, which needs to just be pushed past with some crappy writing.

Thus, I am hereby giving myself permission to suck – just write ANYTHING; anything at all!)

Accountability: Week Three

(I hit a landmark event today:  First time since making the decision/ setting the goal to do so that I have managed to run three days in one week!  Oh, I’ve walked days and that’s fine because I’m getting back into shape and learning a new athletic skill at the same time, which is a very difficult combination, but I have yet to manage three runs or proper workouts in one week over the past year.  So… that’s very good. ^_^

Unfortunately, I’ve hit a bit of a writer’s block, which is no fun, but I think once the stress of starting a new job passes, I’ll be alright.  Just need to get back into doing some mediation and breathing throughout my days again.)

Accountability: Week Three

(Zombies Run is the BEST running app, I’ve ever found!  It makes me want to run even when I’m sore and tired from the previous night’s run.

Also, I have signed up for the Halloween Virtual Race: 5K & 10K races, here I come!)
